Mono Lake is right outside Lee Vining, California.
A stop here can be combined with a trip to either Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, or both.
Although you can kayak here, the quickest way to see Mono Lake at it’s best is to show up before dawn and see the sunrise.
Next road trip, sleep in your car at Mono Lake’s free parking. Face east and watch the sky change color. At sunrise, you’ll be treated to a very strange surreal sight.
